JOB TITLE: Assistant Nurse Manager

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager

INTRODUCTION

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse capable of providing care and supervision of clinical staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager must be skilled in completing nursing assessments and performing routine nursing procedures health center procedures. The Assistant Nurse Manager models adherence to the policy and procedures, as well as commitment to quality care, and is responsible for the overall functioning of the nursing/medical assistant staff. Partnering with the Health Center Management Team, the Assistant Nurse Manager strives to see patients in a timely manner and works to promote flow through the health center in a friendly and efficient manner.


MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Works with the Management Team to ensure quality of care is promoted.
  • Provides direct patient care as appropriate to ensure smooth operations of the health center.
  • Assists with coordination of the monthly, weekly, and daily nursing schedule.
  • Assigns nursing staff (RN, LPN, MA, NA and DA) to appropriate work stations.
  • Assists with the maintenance of medical supplies.
  • Serves as the back-up coordinator for the Vaccine program at the site.
  • Oversees the daily and weekly clinical log checks.
  • Collaborates on nursing education processes at the health center.
  • Assists with completing annual nursing competencies.
  • Orients new nursing employees.
  • Performs other related duties and accepts other related responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (AAS, BSN,).
  • Licensed or eligibility as RN in DC.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • One (1) year of experience in management.
  • Two (2) years of recent clinical experience in medical surgical, emergency, ICU, or urgent care preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate Unity's mission through his/her work.
  • Experience with underserved population or other special needs populations.
  • Demonstrated experience in using good judgment in working with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize activities.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The position reports directly to the Nurse Manager.

The position abides by all rules and regulations set forth by applicable licensing and regulatory bodies, as well as UHC policies and procedures.

PERSONAL CONTACTS

The position requires contact with staff at all levels throughout the organization. There are also external organizational relationships that may be a part of the work of this individual.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Assistant Nurse Manager must be able to balance the needs of diverse constituencies on a daily basis.

RISKS

The position involves everyday risk and discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, training rooms, and other UHC health Care Sites. The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. All medical services shall be provided according to medically accepted community standards of care. The employee shall provide evidence of a recent (within the past twelve (12) months) health assessment that includes a PPD and/or chest x-ray results.
