Perkins Coie is looking for a dynamic, innovative, and strategic leader to head up the E-Discovery Services & Strategy (ESS) practice group's attorney and technologist teams as well as the group's state-of-the-art technology offerings. The Managing Director of ESS will oversee a management team responsible for the day-to-day operations of the practice group, ensure compliance with firm standards and implement strategies to increase group profitability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation.

  • Devise and implement the group's vision, mission, and long-term goals.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor for clients, attorneys, and business professionals on issues related to electronic discovery, legal standards and legal technology.
  • Drive innovation in the firm's e-discovery practices and service delivery, with a focus on market differentiators and increasing quality, efficiency, and revenue in furtherance of the firm's strategic plan.
  • Ensure ESS meets the firm's business needs and exemplary service levels are maintained. Work with administrative departments across the firm to ensure success of ESS business model.
  • Oversee performance, hiring, utilization of resources, workload allocation, talent development, operations, and service delivery.
  • Communicate with and develop/maintain strong trust relationships with clients and internal stakeholders, including firm management, partners, and client leads.
  • Participate in business and client development.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire large professional work teams and develop talent.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and efficiently firm personnel at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects at once with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion.
  • Commitment to quality, efficiency, and professional excellence.
  • Extensive experience with and understanding of all aspects of e-discovery, including Generative AI.
  • Understanding of common IT architectures and applications used by Fortune 500 companies.
  • Established track record of thought leadership within the e-discovery industry.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required and J.D. preferred.
  • 10+ years in e-discovery with 4-8 years of management experience in a law firm or professional service environment.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan starting at 20 days annually, personal medical and parental leave, up to ten paid Holidays, and family care benefits. This position may be filled in the following location(s). The compensation depends on qualifications and experience.

Washington State compensation range: $193,330 to $348,040 annually

Washington D.C. compensation range: $208,800 to $375,880 annually
