Overview

The Research Assistant I is to perform laboratory based research in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff.

The impact of sleep restriction on current military and veteran populations is significant. The incumbant will examine how sleep restriction will alter the stress axis and cognitive outcomes. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs analysis and interpretation of results.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. This position will be in support of the Gynecologic Surgery & Obstetrics Department of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities
    Plans, conducts, and completes investigations on stress and neuroendocrine studies in pre-clinical models under supervision
  • Assists with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
Qualifications

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
