Health Center Director (SBHC)
We are hiring a an experienced, energetic, and mission-driven School Based Health Center Director, to be responsible for the overall coordination of daily operations and staff oversite of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team at the School Based Health Centers operated by Unity Health Care.

The SBHCD should be a Registered Nurse with administrative and leadership experience. They will be part of the leadership team working in collaboration with the Medical Director, DC Department of Health, Unity team, school administrators, teachers, and community partners to best serve our patients. They will be involved in data collection, grant reporting and performance improvement activities. Duties will include occasionally providing direct clinical care so must be skilled in completing nursing assessments and performing routine nursing procedures.

Unity Health Care currently operates two centers at HD Woodson High School and Cardozo Education Campus providing convenient, comprehensive health services in a caring within the school environment. SBHCs are an innovative health care model to achieving health care equity and improving the health and well-being among children and adolescents.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Operations Management

  • Provides operational leadership and general direction to Unity staff on a daily basis to include Patient Registration Clerks, Care Coordinators and Medical Assistants.
  • Coordinates daily, weekly, monthly schedules, and assignments of the front office and clinical staff.
  • Leads weekly SBHC huddles
  • Leads monthly staff meetings
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates processes that impact day-to-day operations.
  • Manages and assists in the maintenance of provider schedules, staff time and attendance records, and office inventory and supply control.
  • Collaborates with administrative staff to provide general services of maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Manages the new staff site orientation.
  • Completes performance evaluations of front office and clinical staff.
  • Provides updates and changes from operational and nursing leadership
  • Acts as liaison between with Unity departments and DC Health expanding program offering and enhancing the quality of existing programs
  • Acts as a liaison between Unity Health Care and High School administration.
  • Organizes programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of DC Health and Unity
  • Manages budgets and reporting on fund allocation and assesses program strengths or weaknesses
  • Develops a budget and operating plan for the program and manages budget and reporting on fund allocation
  • Produces accurate and timely reporting of program status
  • Ensure grant deliverables are met and the grant is monitored appropriately
  • Compiles, analyzes and submits monthly, quarterly and year-end data
  • Coordinate and lead targeted outreach activities focused on promoting, integrating, and informing students, families, school staff, and the general school community about the health Center services
  • Coordinate educational outreach activities focused on health promotion and health education to students
  • Collaborates with community partners to increase awareness and expansion of programs
  • Works on strategy with the SBHC team and Unity's leadership staff
  • Participates in grant application process including review, revision and submission
  • Fosters and maintains strong relationship with school administrators
  • Collaborates with the school nurse to ensure continuity of care with outside providers

Nursing/Clinical

  • Provides support for primary care services through nurse visits.
  • Documents in medical records per policy and standards.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records in a timely manner.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed to facilitate the operation of the health center.
  • Works in collaboration with the VFC Coordinator providing oversight to the Vaccine Program for the health center.
  • Maintains sufficient floor stock medication, vaccines. and clinical supply cadence.
  • Work in collaboration with School nurse to get school immunization compliance to 100%.
  • Provides training to clinical staff (medical assistants) in filling out the online DOH form for all positive STIs in the SBHC.
  • Oversees lab functions at the School-Based health center.
  • Oversees the daily and weekly clinical log checks.
  • Provides clinical oversight of nursing processes to assure quality of care while promoting positive patient flow.
  • Provides training, mentorship and oversight to clinical staff to assure appropriate disposition of patients with urgent needs.
  • Functions as the nursing liaison to other departments, services, and outside agencies on behalf of the health center.
  • Manages the annual infection control competency assessment.
  • Manages and leads the annual emergency trainings (collaboration with Medical Leadership)
  • Helps and may lead SBHC community education efforts
  • Responsible with medical director for ensuring quality delivery of health care and services, including leading PDSAs and participating in data collection

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in nursing Required; MSN preferred
  • Current Active DC RN License
  • School-Based health center or pediatric experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience with underserved populations or other special needs populations highly preferred.
  • Experience in working in a nonprofit primary care ambulatory health center or the equivalent preferred.
