Job Description

What makes this role important to Ipsos

The Statistician will be integral to designing and delivering high quality research for a range of USPA clients, including clients from our US Federal, nonprofit, and NGO portfolios. The Research Statistician will also be integral to delivering work via Ipsos KnowledgePanel. KnowledgePanel is Ipsos's proprietary probability panel, consisting of over 60,000 active members, and projectable to individuals and households across the US.

What you can expect to be doing:

The successful candidate will have substantial training or experience in the analysis of complex sample survey data, sampling, weighting, longitudinal data analysis, and GLMs. Experience with Bayesian methods, machine learning, small area estimation, and / or experimental design are preferred. More generally, we are looking for a self-starter who is intellectually flexible, has a practical approach to problem-solving, and has a strong interest in social and behavioral research. Applicants should be comfortable working in flexible, multidisciplinary teams, and communicating ideas and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Data analysis: Applying a broad set of statistical techniques for inference and forecasting, multiple comparisons, causal analysis, and longitudinal analysis (such as growth curve modeling, time series, survival analysis);
  • Sample adjustments and data integration: Generating survey weights and applying nonresponse adjustments, developing, and deploying statistically-sound strategies for blending probability and nonprobability samples, and blending probability panels with administrative and other data types.
  • Research design: Translating research questions into robust yet practical data collection and analytic frameworks, performing complex power analyses, consulting peer-reviewed literatures to assess and operationalize analytic solutions, collaborating on drafting analysis and weighting plans and proposal sections.
  • Reporting and client deliverables: Working as part of interdisciplinary teams to interpret, stress-test, and cross-validate study findings, developing visualizations and insights, and communicating results to clients and stakeholders in verbal and written form.
  • Innovation and thought leadership: Presenting original work at research and industry conferences, conducting or contributing to internal trainings or seminars, and participating in internal strategic initiatives and special projects.

This might be the job for you if you have:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in statistics or survey methodology, with at least 5 years applied research experience working directly with survey or panel data. We will consider M.S. and Ph.D. applicants in social and behavioral science fields with strong quantitative skills and substantial experience with complex sample survey or panel data. Experience with passive data and US Federal databases a plus.
  • Strong skill in both R and SAS.
  • Superior organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a strong client service orientation.
  • Unflagging attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to the accuracy and completeness of information, quality of results, and robustness of findings.
  • Highly motivated, and capable of working within tight and shifting deadlines.
  • Self-directed, capable of working with minimal supervision with a high level of initiative.
  • Team-player and flexible thinker, with enthusiasm for learning and innovation.
  • Leadership potential (as a mentor, and/or thought leader).
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • MUST BE A USA CITIZEN
