Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician

Location: George Washington University Hospital

Overview: As a Sterile Processing Technician at George Washington University Hospital, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and safety of surgical instrumentation through the meticulous management of the reprocessing cycle. With a high school diploma or equivalent and certification as a Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Material Management (IAHCSMM), along with a minimum of 12 months of experience in Sterile Processing, you will ensure that surgical instruments are properly disinfected, sterilized, and prepared for use in surgical procedures.


Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the reprocessing cycle for surgical instrumentation, including disassembly, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging, labeling, high-level disinfection, and sterilization.
  • Care for and operate ultrasonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and other equipment used in the sterilization process.
  • Complete quality monitoring and documentation to ensure compliance with established standards and protocols.
  • Pick supplies and instruments to prepare case carts for surgery, ensuring that all necessary items are included and properly sterilized.
  • Perform quality assurance activities, including regular checks of equipment functionality and adherence to sterilization protocols.
  • Assist with supply inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels and prevent shortages.
  • Participate in clinic instrument rounds to collect, clean, disinfect, and restock instruments as needed.
  • Assist with mentoring, training, coaching, and role modeling for new Sterile Processing Technicians to ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
  • Perform all duties with a commitment to excellence, quality, and customer service, prioritizing patient safety and satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Material Management (IAHCSMM) is required.
  • 12 months minimum experience in Sterile Processing.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Demonstrated communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with various applications related to Instrument management (such as Censis, OneSource) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Manual dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instruments.
